I begin my paintings with a plan because it’s a way to get some paint on the canvas. However, I rarely stick to the plan. I like to surprise myself. Each time I start a painting my goal is to create a piece of art that I want to look at over and over again. A painting is finished when it hangs on my wall for a few days and I smile as I walk by it. Then I hope that others will want to look at it too.
I believe that each person sees a painting differently. If someone finds meaning in it that’s a wonderful thing. But to the next person who comes along it may mean something else entirely. I don't concern myself with those kinds of thoughts. I create what I feel and leave it to the viewer to decide whether a piece makes a statement.
